In fall 2020, the International Business School Cologne has started a cooperation with a new partner university in New York. Together with Adelphi University, the IBS has launched the Trans-Atlantic Virtual Exchange and Collaboration Project in the middle of the global pandemic through a grant from the DAAD. Students from both universities worked together on virtual projects. After one year of virtual project collaboration between students and faculty and a virtual student conference in spring 2021, participants were finally able to meet in person on a 5-days delegation trip to Cologne and New York in fall 2021 to further develop the partnership.
Round 2 of the TAVEC Project was started in fall 2021 bringing new students of the International Business Management Bachelor’s program in Cologne together with students from Adelphi University. In March 2022, a small delegation of student and faculty ambassadors of these courses was again invited to visit their partner university in Cologne and New York.
In the third year of this partnership, a new collaborative format was tested. To participate in the TAVEC Week, a virtual project week in October 2022, students from both schools had to apply proving their motivation and, once accepted, had the opportunity to work on exciting weeklong projects on the topics of “New Work, Employer Branding, Recruiting Campaigns” in cross-university teams. Besides workshops, keynotes and social activities, the students finally presented their impressive results showing their creativity, ambition, technical know-how and will to win, at the competitive virtual conference in front of a jury of German and American business experts. Faculty members and judges were enthusiastic about the creative projects, including social media campaigns and image films, which the students developed together in such a short time, across different continents and time zones, with students who they did not know before. The judges selected the two best groups that won a travel stipend to visit their respective partner university in New York and Cologne in March 2023.
The long-term goal is to further expand the cooperation in various formats and to anchor the TAVEC concept across different schools in order to make this exchange experience possible for even more students and faculties.
