Case Studies: Industry Revolution, Digital Business Models, and Knowledge Management

In the course “Case Study Management” in the Master’s program Digital Management (M.A.) students become Management Consultants. For one semester, they work in teams on a question from business practice.

In this semester the Consultancy Capgemini Invent, Music Label Sony Music, and the social consulting firm FAF have brought along a real business task for the students. In September, Jonas Röhrscheid, Head of Content Strategy & Operations at Sony Music, Jannis Kachel, Manager Insights Driven Enterprise, and Dominik Schindler, Senior Consultant, Insights Driven Enterprise at Capgemini Invent, as well as Michael Weiss, CEO, and Susan Kirk, Senior Project Manager at FAF, presented the details.

Over the next three months, the student teams will work independently on the cases of the three companies, coordinate their work with their corporate contacts, conduct interviews and external analyses, and finally bring everything to the point in a solution concept. “The topics are manifold and are also based on the contents of the Master’s program Digital Management (M.A.). It is of course also exciting to gain a holistic insight into the business and market models of the companies and to work directly with these findings”, says Prof. Dr. Christian Lengfeld, Professor of Management and International Management, who is supervising the project.

In the course of the weekly lectures, progress is discussed and basic instruments and tools for working with the students are deepened. The focus is on market and competition analyses, the analysis of existing business models and the transfer into new digital business concepts, project management, and value creation analyses.

In January 2020, the final concepts will be presented to the responsible managers of the companies and the next internal and external steps will be coordinated to implement solutions.
